Stunning waterfalls from around the world

Nature's wonders with terrifying power and unique beauty, which even the experienced travelers find breathtaking!

Waterfalls are some of nature's most magnificent creations. There's something awe-inspiring about how millions of liters of water crash down from great heights, sweeping away everything and everyone in its path. While the well-known Niagara Falls offers a breathtaking sight, there are many other waterfalls worth visiting! We've gathered some of the most unique ones for you!

The Thousand-Year-Old Waterfall

Iceland's most impressive waterfall, the horseshoe-shaped Godafoss, is located in the northern-central part of Iceland, in the Mývatn region. It is more than 12 meters high and 30 meters wide. The name "Godafoss" means "Waterfall of the Gods," and it was given its name after a legend. When Iceland transitioned from paganism to Christianity, the former chieftain symbolically got rid of his pagan gods by throwing them into the waterfall as an act of conversion.

The longest waterfall in Central Europe

In Austria's Hohe Tauern National Park, the Krimml Waterfall, with its 380-meter drop, originates from the icy stream called Krimmler Ache. The waterfall, formed by three cascades, is located at an altitude of 1,687 meters, meaning the surrounding area is covered by ice during the winter. The tourist trail was started in 1835, and a 1.5-hour hike leads to the highest point, from which there is a stunning view of the entire national park, the surrounding mountain peaks, and glaciers.

The waterfall guarded by Buddha

The Detian Waterfall, located on the border between China and Vietnam, is 200 meters wide and 75 meters high, making it the fourth-largest waterfall in the world, after Iguazu, Victoria, and Niagara. The water flow varies depending on the season; in June and July, the water plunges down at tremendous speed, while during the dry season, it flows peacefully. At the top of the waterfall, there is a small Buddhist shrine, which adds to the serenity of this extraordinary landscape.

The world's bluest waterfall

At first glance, it may seem like a manipulated image created with a photo editor, but it is not. The water of the Rio Celeste Waterfall, located in Costa Rica's Tenorio Volcano National Park, is a stunning blue due to the volcanic minerals found beneath the surface. To reach the waterfall, one must traverse through a tropical rainforest, encountering unique animals like the white-faced monkey, poison dart frog, and blue butterfly. Once you reach the waterfall, you can relax in the nearby hot springs, which soothe both the body and the soul.

The Paradise of Waterfalls

The Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is famous for its 16 interconnected lakes, arranged in terraces, and its approximately 92 waterfalls. The lakes shine in shades of green, grey, and blue, and the number of waterfalls varies depending on the abundance of water in the mountains and the water flow. Plitvice was designated a national park in 1949 and remains extremely popular, attracting over a million tourists every year.
